Pray for Power

On January 4, Betty and I headed to Richmond from Lynchburg to see her sister who is in a rehab facility. It was quite a drive. The day before several inches of very wet snow had fallen in Central Virginia. The trees were bent over from the heaviness of the wet snow causing them to block the road. The night before, emergency road crews had cut those limbs and trees that had crossed I-64 between Charlottesville and Richmond. Each side of the road looked like a tornado zone. Power was out in a portion of Charlottesville and most little towns between there and Richmond. Long lines were at gas pumps from Zion’s Crossroads, Gum Springs and Oilville. Emergency crews with sirens and red blinking lights raced to their destinations of need. It was an eerie drive to say the least

The normal two hour and fifteen-minute drive ended up being five hours. We were exhausted by the time we arrived. We booked reservations at a hotel in West Richmond because there was no way we were driving back in the dark.  The hotel was full because there was no power in much of western Henrico, Goochland, and Louisa Counties.

The next morning before check-out at the hotel I was waiting at the elevator doors and when they opened a Mom with three little kids came out and the lady still in the elevator hollered at the Mom saying, Pray for Power, which meant a soon return of electrical power for them. From those words, Pray for Power came a flashback for me when I was a young pastor. Our spiritual mentors would always tell us to pray for power. Basically, what that meant was to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to spiritually impact those in our environment with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ paid our sin debt on the Cross and after receiving Jesus as Savior we are supposed to tell others about this marvelous grace of God. Having the power of God on your life means that your lifestyle is authentic, real, and you live a Galatians 2:20 lifestyle which means a “Christ in Me” journey.

I still desire the power of God on my life to influence those in my environment to come to the Cross and be saved. I desire that for you too! Let’s talk.

Pray for power.
